For a Better Tomorrow
Our guiding star is the voices of young people and what they need to feel well.
Mental illness among young people is one of our greatest societal challenges. Today, every second 15-year-old suffers from recurring mental health issues, and the most common cause of death among young people is suicide. Every week, year-round, three young people take their lives in Sweden. Many young people also experience a deep sense of hopelessness, and the feeling of loneliness is extremely palpable—not to mention the stress and pressure they feel in all areas of life, with school being particularly prominent.

Tim Bergling Foundation
The Tim Bergling Foundation works for the mental health of children and young people. It was founded by Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén after their son Tim Bergling, better known as the world-renowned artist Avicii, took his own life in 2018.
The guiding star of the Tim Bergling Foundation is the voices of young people and what they need to feel well. In 2020, the foundation launched the initiative “For A Better Day” (which is also one of Avicii’s song titles); an ongoing collection of young people’s thoughts, feelings, and desires for a better tomorrow. The foundation transforms what young people share into concrete projects, collaborations, and initiatives that promote young people’s mental health and well-being, on their terms.
The Tim Bergling Foundation works on preventive measures for the well-being and mental health of young people. Under the umbrella of “For a Better Day,” the foundation initiates a variety of projects. They are building music studios across the country to give young people meaningful recreational activities. They supply schools with podcast equipment and training so that school health personnel can engage in conversations about mental health with students. They also organize concerts at Avicii Arena to break the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide, while fostering hope and optimism for the future—and much more.
In addition to its own projects, the foundation supports young people at risk of mental illness through donations and collaborations with organizations such as Bris, Mind, and Suicide Zero. Without their financial support, for example, Mind’s "Suicide Helpline" would not be able to stay open 24/7, and counseling support via Tilliten in Stockholm would not be possible. The foundation also supports social entrepreneurs working with young people’s mental health through partnerships with The Inner Foundation and Reach for Change.

For a Better Future
The guiding star of the Tim Bergling Foundation is the voices of young people and what they need to feel well. On December 5, 2020, the initiative “For A Better Day” was launched, a collection where children and young people under the age of 25 were given the opportunity to share their experiences, thoughts, ideas, and suggestions for a better tomorrow.
The first 1,000 voices have been compiled into the book “This is What For A Better Day Needs”, which now forms the heart and promise of the foundation’s work. Everything the Tim Bergling Foundation does is based on what children and young people need for a better future, and through this collection, the foundation continues to gather and listen to young voices.
The collection and the book highlight the challenges young people face and urge us all to listen and take action. The Tim Bergling Foundation has built spaces and created activities based on young people's wishes. The book has also been presented to two prime ministers as a reminder that society has an obligation to take the voices of young people seriously—and has everything to gain by doing so. After all, it is the young who give us a future.
There is help
Sometimes things we experience in life can seem impossible to handle. But with the support of others we can. A simple conversation is often an important first step. Don't be afraid to let your friends, family, teachers, or anyone else know how you feel.
If you want to remain anonymous, there are helplines that offer support by phone, email and chat.
In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
