Does my phone have MagSafe? How to check compatibility
)
MagSafe allows compatible chargers and accessories to attach magnetically to the back of your phone. The technology is built into most iPhone models from iPhone 12 onwards, but there are a few exceptions.
Here’s how to check whether your phone has MagSafe and what you need to use magnetic accessories.
What is MagSafe?
MagSafe is Apple’s magnetic system for wireless charging and accessories. The magnets on the back of a compatible iPhone help position the charger or accessory correctly.
MagSafe can be used with products such as:
Wireless MagSafe-compatible chargers
Magnetic card holders
Phone holders and car mounts
MagSafe-compatible phone cases
Other magnetic phone accessories

How to check which iPhone you have
If you’re unsure which iPhone model you have, you can check it in the phone’s settings:
Open Settings.
Select General.
Tap About.
Check the information next to Model Name.
Compare the model name with the list above to see whether your phone has MagSafe.
Are wireless charging and MagSafe the same thing?
No. A phone can support wireless charging without having MagSafe.
Standard wireless charging usually uses Qi technology. MagSafe combines wireless charging with magnets that position the charger correctly and allow magnetic accessories to be attached.
iPhone 16e is an example of a phone that can be charged wirelessly but does not have built-in MagSafe.
Do I need a MagSafe-compatible phone case?
If you use your phone without a case, a MagSafe accessory can attach directly to a compatible iPhone.
If you use a phone case, we recommend choosing a MagSafe-compatible case. It has built-in magnets that help chargers, card holders and other accessories stay securely attached.
A regular case can weaken the magnetic connection, especially if the case is thick or increases the distance between the phone and the accessory.
Can I use MagSafe with an Android phone?
MagSafe was developed by Apple and is therefore not built into standard Android phones as an Apple technology. However, some newer Android models support Qi2, which can also use magnetic alignment.
Compatibility varies between phones, cases and accessories. Always check the product information for your specific phone model.
Find a MagSafe-compatible phone case
For a stable magnetic connection, choose a MagSafe-compatible phone case made specifically for your phone model.
Holdit’s MagSafe-compatible phone cases have built-in magnets and can be used with compatible chargers, card holders and phone mounts. Always check the model name before adding the case to your shopping bag.
