Which Apple Watch band fits my watch?

To choose the right Apple Watch band, you need to know your watch’s case size. It is shown in millimetres, such as 40, 41, 42, 44, 45, 46 or 49 mm. The case size—not the display size or your wrist measurement—determines whether the band connector fits your watch.

Several Apple Watch sizes can use the same band. There is, however, one important exception: 42 mm is used for both an older large case and a newer small case. Always check both the size and the Apple Watch Series before ordering.

Quick guide: which Apple Watch bands are compatible?

Holdit Apple Watch bands are divided into two size groups:

Always check the current product page before buying, as the range and product information may be updated.

Why does 42 mm appear in both groups?

Apple has used the 42 mm name for two different case formats:

  • Apple Watch Series 1–3 in 42 mm belongs to the older, larger group and uses the same connector type as 44, 45, 46 and 49 mm models.

  • Apple Watch Series 10–11 in 42 mm belongs to the newer, smaller group and uses the same connector type as 38, 40 and 41 mm models.

A band marked 42 mm will therefore not automatically fit every 42 mm Apple Watch. If your watch is 42 mm, always check the Series as well.

How do I find my Apple Watch size?

Remove the watch and look at the engraving around the sensor on the back. The case size is shown in millimetres.

If the engraving is difficult to read, identify the model through your iPhone:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app.

  2. Tap My Watch.

  3. Select General, then About.

  4. Tap Model Number until a number beginning with A appears.

  5. Compare that number with Apple’s model list to find the Series and case size.

Then choose a band whose product information includes your combination of Series and case size.

Do 40 and 41 mm bands fit the same watches?

Yes. Bands for 38, 40 and 41 mm cases belong to the same size group. Holdit’s current smaller-size bands also include the 42 mm Apple Watch Series 10 and Series 11.

Do 44 mm bands fit 45 or 46 mm Apple Watch models?

Yes. Bands for 44, 45 and 46 mm cases belong to the same larger group. The older 42 mm Apple Watch Series 1–3 and 49 mm Apple Watch Ultra models are also included in this group.

For Apple Watch Ultra, Apple recommends using some 44, 45 and 46 mm bands mainly for everyday wear. For demanding activities, choose a band designed for the activity and follow the product recommendations.

Case size and wrist size are not the same thing

The case size determines whether the band attaches to the watch. Your wrist size determines whether the band fits comfortably around your wrist.

Current Holdit products include wrist ranges such as:

  • 145–195 mm for several bands in the smaller case group.

  • 155–210 mm for several bands in the larger case group.

Measure your wrist where you normally wear the watch using a flexible tape measure. If you do not have one, use a piece of string and measure it with a ruler. Always compare your result with the wrist range on the individual product page.

The band should feel secure without pinching. The watch should not rotate freely, but the band should not leave deep marks or feel uncomfortable.

Which material should I choose?

Silicone bands

Silicone is soft, durable and easy to wipe clean. Holdit silicone bands are sweat- and water-resistant, making them suitable for workouts and everyday use.

Nylon bands

Nylon is lightweight and comfortable. An adjustable hook-and-loop closure makes it easy to change the fit during the day. It is a practical option for workouts, walks and a sporty look.

Magnetic silicone bands

A magnetic silicone band is easy to adjust and has a clean, minimalist appearance. It is a good choice if you want to change the fit quickly and wear the same band at work and during your free time.

How to change an Apple Watch band

  1. Place the watch face down on a clean, soft, lint-free surface.

  2. Press and hold the band release button on the back.

  3. Slide the band sideways to remove it. Do not force it.

  4. Slide the new band in from the side with the text facing you.

  5. Continue until the band locks into place and you feel or hear a click.

If the band does not lock, remove it and check that it is facing the correct way. Do not wear the watch until both parts are securely attached.

Match the band to your day

Choose silicone or nylon for workouts, then switch to a neutral or matching colour for work and everyday wear. Find more practical products for running and movement in Holdit’s Active collection.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use an old Apple Watch band with a new watch?

Often, yes—provided both watches belong to the same size group. Pay particular attention to 42 mm, as it is used in two different groups.

Does a 42 mm band fit every 42 mm Apple Watch?

No. A 42 mm band for Series 1–3 belongs to the larger group, while a 42 mm band for Series 10–11 belongs to the smaller group.

Do Holdit bands fit Apple Watch Ultra?

Selected bands in the larger group fit 49 mm Apple Watch Ultra, Ultra 2 and Ultra 3. Check that 49 mm is listed in the product information.

Do the same bands fit Apple Watch, Garmin and Samsung?

Not automatically. Different brands and models may use different connectors and widths. Choose a band that lists your exact watch as compatible.
